Come celebrate with Katie — April 17th, Chagrin Falls

by Sam on April 2, 2010

Katie finishes her Atlantic row

On Saturday, April 17th, Chagrin Valley Rotary Club is putting on a “Welcome Home” celebration for Katie at Kenston High School. From 1 pm, Katie will be giving a presentation about the row, followed by an opportunity for you to ask all the questions you’ve been dying to put to her.

The best part of it is that it won’t cost you anything at all (but, of course, donations will be very gratefully accepted!).

If you want to come, please e-mail Mark Besand (bykrdad2@aol.com) or Roger Kallock (rwkallock@windstream.net). I look forward to seeing you all there. (Yes, I’m afraid I’ll be there too!)

When: Saturday, April 17th, 1 p.m.
Where: Kenston High School Auditorium
9500 Bainbridge Road
Chagrin Falls, OH 44023 [Click here for a map]
Who: Katie Spotz (and Sam Williams)
Why: To celebrate Katie’s accomplishment
Cost: Free (donations for clean water projects will be accepted)

RSVP: Mark Besand (440) 543-5520 bykrdad2@aol.com
Roger Kallock (440) 343-5954 rwkallock@windstream.net

Mike D! (“D” DOES stand for Dear, doesn’t it??)

If only I knew your last name, I’d add you to our (asylum) facebook friends … and THEN you’d be sorry. The crickets would sound good to you in comparison.

I know – right? Groooooss!!

Sorry we’ll miss you; it would’ve been fun to meet a weirdo such as yourself.

Wish I was going to the party, but it would be a little hard to get there from Korea. Have a wonderful time and WOW! them all Katie! I know you will.

Any chance we could get more pics to entertain those of us who can’t go?

Soon a Celebration for you. That is wonderful. I wanted to show you something I found. I like to study Animal totems, and I found this on the Albatross. When you mentioned there were albatross along with you, I had to look them up, as I did not know what they looked like. Today I was looking up Some other Animals to decipher more about their symbolism, and I happened to read this on the Albatross. I believe whole Heartedly in Native American Wisdom. It just makes sense to me ;)
.

Albatross — Stamina and endurance, ability to remain in emotional situations for extended periods of time, awkward yet effective beginnings and endings, seeing the benefits of extended parenting…

Also wondering where LIV is going to . . . .is there room in your driveway?!?!?!? I hope all goes well for you on the 17th, you deserve to be with your fans.

Oh, the Humanity!

OurAsylum April 16, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Comparing yourself to The Hindenburg, Mike D??? Don’tcha think that’s just a little bit ODD?? Yeah – me too ….

Ted April 17, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I was planning to attend the celebration with my daughter today, but I am stranded in Sweden with no flights out, due to the volcanic ash. Will look to attend another of your talks in the future.

have fun

Wish I could make it to your party today but I just live too far and the funds are a wee bit short. I know it is going to be an awesome party and I am terribly sorry I will miss the chance to meet you in person Katie. You have come to stand for many more things than just a clean healthy planet, which is a feet in and of itself! A few words coming to mind are strength, determination, adventurous, inspirational, role model for what we all have inside of us if only we would let go and tap into it. Thanks for all of the wisdom from such a young soul I will never forget this experience you shared with us – enabling us to follow along on your amazing trip. I am waiting for what’s next!!!
Have a beautiful day today Katie – it is well earned,
All my love,
Beth

RE: “Comparing yourself to The Hindenburg, Mike D???”

Well… Not intentionally…
Although, I have been putting on a bit of weight lately… And poor Sam couldn’t take to the air due to smoke and flame… Katie’s achievements will surely go down in the history books… So I suppose you could infer a few similarities? :-\

(aside)
Morrison’s phrase “Oh, the humanity” has become an American idiom, most often used in a satirical way to ridicule, diminish and trivialize emotional displays the speaker deems overly sentimental. – From Wikipedia

I did however miss meeting you-all at the party :-(
Glad you had fun in my stead!

P.S. Happy Birthday to Katie! And to my own daughter (Nicole) who turns 21 today! :)
