Jumping into the deep

Katie swims in the Atlantic

Gradually, as I rowed across the Atlantic, things would start to grow on Liv. If left for too long, it would turn into a jungle underwater, making my boat glide through the water much slower. So, in order to stop that, every now and again I had to jump in to scrub my boat!

But I wasn’t the only thing down there. And, sometimes, the fish got a little too close for comfort. Here’s a short video with some of my close encounters while cleaning Liv and keeping everything running smoothly. Sorry for the screams!

Rcvd. the following message when trying to load the bottom cleaning video.
Great crossing. I followed you from about the 1/3 point when I heard about it.

Thanks John. If anyone else has this problem, please can you let me know? It’s still working fine for me.

Very neat, Katie…I can’t tell if those are screams of excitement or terror. Either way, very cool – thanks for sharing!!!

Nice video. Looked great hear in Olalla, WA. Water here is toooo stinkin’ cold for that sort of activity! Tried it once. Brrrrr! Puget Sound.

I had no problems here in the western US.
Sure looks like a bunch of very interested fishes you rowed with!
Did the motion of the ocean ever stop? I havent seen one shot, still or video that didnt look like a quite moment! Land must seem boring!

The video worked fine here and it was amazing!!
Looks like you had your own private aquarium out there.
I couldn’t believe how many fish were there! And all different kinds and sizes!
So cool!

And I love how your goofy, sweet spirit came shining through too Katie.
The screams and the waving to the camera were awesome!
Thanks for sharing…I loved it! :)

Video worked just fine here in our hotel room in Kentucky as we are traveling from Geneva to Mobile, Alabama for srping break.
Awesome video – amazed at all the fish swimming around. You had some neat company on your swim. You looked like you were born to be there!
Loved it – keep those pics and videos coming. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures.

Katie, You are either one brave woman or you’re crazier than I thought you were. Barnacles or no barnacles I don’t think there is anything that could have persuaded me to get into the ocean. Of course, even in the rowboat I think I would have been looking for Jaws… you know the end scene where he trashes Quinn’s boat? Yeah, that one. You are absolutely amazing! Obviously, video worked great and I”m so glad you shared it!

Thank you for sharing your video, I like it a lot! Mom and I read your blogs every day. It’s really cool to see the fish swimming by. I think I would have screamed at the Dorados too.

Nicole April 2, 2010 at 9:13 am

video works fine in Germany:) You’re aliveee! I like seeing more of your crazy journey into the unknown and hearing your sound effects that go with it…

rassafrakus April 2, 2010 at 12:27 pm

What a treat! You may be back home but I still imagine being there, rowing at night, seeing the fish, riding the waves. And I imagine the music you’re using for the videos is the same you listened to while rowing. Great stuff. Thank you for the blogs and vlogs.

OHHHHHHHHHH! WE SEA HOW IT IS! (pun intended)
You’ve been hold’n out on us missy! Sav’n the bestest stuff for last, eh? (whoops… better be more cajoling… just in case there’s more to follow :~|

Katie! What a most excellent video graphic memento from your epic rowing adventure! (I’m still in total awe of your achievements!)

RE: The Video
Consequently, you ‘DID’ get you moneys worth at the Atlantic Aquarium! Looks kind-a-like you were being out in outer space (oxymoron intended) all tethered up to the mother ship, just floating around the unbound vastness of the abyss; except! *looks around all spooky eyed*, *whispers* you… were… not… aloooooooone…
In the video we see all manner of alien creatures hovering about and with you (or maybe… you were the alien… an extrapelagical!) (Ok, not a word, but I get credit for trying?!)

(aside)
Hi Peeps! Yeah, I’m still around… just-a-lurk’n in the shadows. Don’t mean to be a creeper though. Just waiting for a flash of insight so I could post something MOMENTOUS! Sadly however, it was only a misfire :-\

P.S.
Yo! (Philly slang) Thank you Katie for the video! Keep’um coming!

(think little mermaid music)

Look at this vlog… Isn’t it neat?!
Wouldn’t think Katie’s collections complete?
Looking around here you think… Well… She’s post everything!

Wonderful blog… Treasures untold
How many wonders can Katie’s blog hold?
Wouldn’t you think that the girl… The girl can do, anything!

She’s had blisters and rashes aplenty
Sea legs and land legs what’s more
Thingamabob’s? Well, not any

But who cares? No big deal!
We want MOOOOOOORE!

(Appropriate? Yes! – Silly? I think not!)

I can’t imagine why, but thanks just the same :-)
Be assured though, the feeling is mutual!
