At 22, Katie Spotz is trying to become the youngest person ever to row across the Atlantic Ocean, and the first American to row from mainland to mainland with no outside help. After 37 days at sea, Spotz is now halfway through her trip and ahead of schedule, about 1,250 miles away from land. We caught up with her via satellite phone.

Katie, Just heard your Popular Mechanics interview. Wonderful to actually hear you describe some of your events in person from your position at sea. We continue to follow and wish you all the best. Again, you should write a book with all the photos about your adventure. Would love to hear you speak about your voyage when you return. Keep up your courage, strength and enthusiasm. Not as far to go now as it has been.
